So I started this blog a couple years ago, actually. For the most part I’ve been very remiss in writing content. There were two whole posts in 2021. Shameful.
Writing is something I seem to be doing in my head virtually all the time. There’s almost always a narrative going about something or other. I’m either building something in my head, or writing something in my head. So you’d think taking the leap to transfer all this content streaming through my thoughts to the page would be a piece of cake.
Not. At. All.
Maybe it’s time for a public declaration: “I’m going to write more this year, damnit!”
So this is one of my New Year’s resolutions. Write more. Write daily, if possible. Just get something on the page.
I’m also hoping that transitioning from a paid blog to a free blog might make a difference. I thought, initially, that setting up a paid personal blog with WordPress would be more of a motivator to crank stuff out. As you can see, it hasn’t.
But, in my defense, this past year has been pretty hectic on the farm. Summer is time to do a lot of outside work, and that’s where I was most of the time over the last several months. Outside. Building, cleaning, gardening, mowing, cutting wood, planting and watering trees. And now I’m sitting cozily by the woodstove, reaping the benefits of a garage stacked full with dried and split firewood.
I think I remember reading many years ago that Steven King said the secret to writing wasn’t really that hard. It comes down to time in a chair. Just get your butt in a chair and type. King is the master of “diarrhea of the word processor” (his words).
If I can set up a daily writing habit (or at least 5 days a week) I will mark myself as successful by the end of the year.
There’s a couple more goals I’ll add to my list for the coming year…
- Building the farm business
- Learn German
Here’s to New Year’s Resolutions!!!
What’s yours?
