This is just my opinion, but Weck canning jars are some of the most beautifully designed canning jars out there. The heavy glass, clean lines, and simple designs make these jars very eye catching and attractive.
Weck jars are actually MUCH more common in Europe than our ubiquitous American Ball, Mason, or Kerr canning jars. And consequently the price is much lower over there for Weck jars. Lucky them!
But even though we can get ahold of Weck canning jars in America they’re still not officially sanctioned by the USDA for home canning. It’s not that they’ve tested them and found them wanting, they just haven’t had funding to do an official study on food safety in these jars. The Healthy Canning website has an excellent rundown of using Weck Jars safely for home canning (ie. don’t use the Weck canning book).
These jars can be used for water bath canning (use 2 slips), pressure canning (use 3 clips), as well as dry goods storage (plastic and cork lids are available for daily use). Here are some of the styles of jars that they offer:
Mold Jars
Tulip Jars
Juice Jars
Cylinder Jars
Deco Jars
Deli Jars
